Day 1: Marrakech across Mountains to Merzouga Dunes

For our Semester at Sea Morocco students, we coordinate with your landing schedules to ensure a seamless, stress-free departure. We drive through the High Atlas Mountains, pausing at a breathtaking viewpoint more than 1,900 meters above sea level. As we drive down the mountains, we stop for an unforgettable cultural visit at a local women’s argan oil cooperative. Inside, you will see local girls and women working together, using traditional stone tools and hand techniques passed down for hundreds of years. After a delicious lunch along the road, it is time for a highlight of the afternoon. Day 3: Sahara Sunrise & Return to Marrakech

Before we begin our way back to Marrakech, the entire morning is open for incredible optional desert adventures! If you love speed and excitement, you can choose to ride an ATV Quad bike across the sand dunes for 1 hour, do Buggy ride with a friend to cruise the dunes
Later, we gather back together and get in your car to start the tour back to Marrakech. We will drive through beautiful, wild acacia trees, pass through the famous, historic city of Ouarzazate, and way back through the high, rocky passes of the Atlas Mountains. - Download Your Playlists & Shows: The road trip through the mountains is incredibly beautiful, but cell service and Wi-Fi will drop out completely in the high passes and the deep desert. Be sure to download your favorite Spotify playlists, podcasts, and Netflix episodes before we leave Marrakech
- Prepare for the Zig-Zag Mountains: We will be driving over the High Atlas Mountains, which means very winding, zig-zagging roads. If you are someone who gets car sick easily, we highly recommend bringing motion sickness medication (like Dramamine) so you can enjoy the epic views without feeling dizzy.
- Road Trip Snacks & Hydration: It is a long way! While we stop for a great lunch and have dinner at the camp, college students always get hungry on the road. We recommend buying big bottles of water and your favorite road-trip snacks in Marrakech before we jump in the van.
- Restroom Realities (Bring Coins & Tissues): Moroccan roadside rest stops are an adventure of their own, Western-style toilets are not always available.
